Water is the main component of cells and tissues, and represents 75% – 60% (decreasing as we age) of the body’s composition… so yeah, we’re literally made of this stuff. Water is the environment where all our transport systems work and it’s essential to prevent dehydration. It plays a key role in temperature regulation, and acts as a lubricant so we can better move these incredible bodies of ours!
Water comes up a lot in discussions around preventing aging skin, but its correlation hadn’t been clearly shown through science.
In came this study! Science looked at the effects of drinking water on normal skin physiology. The results showed that yes, higher water intake in your regular diet might positively impact normal skin physiology. This is shown in the skin’s overall improved hydration and elasticity. These observations were more obvious in individuals with lower daily water consumption, and for those whose dry skin is a consistent complaint.
So drink up! Keep those cells hydrated and balanced, and watch that skin glow!
